“Like Jesus”
Acts 9:32-42
Memory Verse: Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, “Tabitha, get up.” She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. (Acts 9:40)
- We follow the example of Jesus
In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which, when translated, is Dorcas), who was always doing good and helping the poor. (Acts 9:36)
“I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” (John 14:12)
- We serve others in the name of Jesus
“Aeneas,” Peter said to him, “Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and take care of your mat.” Immediately Aeneas got up. (Acts 9:34)
“And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” (John 14:13-14)
- We proclaim the salvation of Jesus
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind;” (Luke 10:27a)
- We do everything to the glory of Jesus
All those who lived in Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord. (Acts 9:35)
This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord. (Acts 9:42)
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matt. 5:16)
Reflection
- What specifically will you do this week to follow the example of Tabitha (who followed the example of Jesus)? How will you do good and help the poor?
- How will you use your good works as a means for sharing (in words) the Gospel of Jesus?
