“Like Jesus”
Acts 9:32-42

Memory Verse: Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, “Tabitha, get up.” She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. (Acts 9:40)

  1. We follow the example of Jesus

In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which, when translated, is Dorcas), who was always doing good and helping the poor. (Acts 9:36)

“I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” (John 14:12)

  1. We serve others in the name of Jesus

“Aeneas,” Peter said to him, “Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and take care of your mat.” Immediately Aeneas got up. (Acts 9:34)

“And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” (John 14:13-14)

  1. We proclaim the salvation of Jesus

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind;” (Luke 10:27a)

  1. We do everything to the glory of Jesus

All those who lived in Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord. (Acts 9:35)

This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord. (Acts 9:42)

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matt. 5:16)

Reflection

  1. What specifically will you do this week to follow the example of Tabitha (who followed the example of Jesus)? How will you do good and help the poor?
  2. How will you use your good works as a means for sharing (in words) the Gospel of Jesus?
