“Belonging Before Believing”
Acts 10:1-48

Memory Verse: Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism 35 but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right.” (Acts 10:34-35)

  1. Our Value: Belonging before Believing

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. (Acts 10:44-45)

Now the tax collectors and “sinners” were all gathering around to hear him. 2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” (Luke 15:1-2)

  1. Our Practice: Radical Hospitality

He said to them: “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with a Gentile or visit him. But God has shown me that I should not call any man impure or unclean. 29 So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection. (Acts 10:28-29a)

“Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us.” (Acts 10:33b)

Reflection

  1. Who are the “Gentiles” in your environments? (The people who don’t yet know God)
  2. What specifically can/will you do to extend radical hospitality to them?
  3. Who can you partner with on this mission?
