Mark 10:46-52

Key Verse: “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. (Mark 10:51a)

Listening entails hearing, watching, and sensitively responding to the spoken and unspoken needs of others that demonstrate sincere interest.

How to listen like Jesus…

  1. Stop talking

“Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. (John 8:4-6)

  1. Stop making assumptions

“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. (Mark 10:51a)

  1. Stop jumping to solutions

When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” (John 4:7)

  1. Give your full attention

Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” (Mark 10:48-49)

  1. Show genuine interest in the other person

Jesus looked at him and loved him. (Mark 10:21a)

  1. Look for the “why” behind the “what”

The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” 52 “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road. (Mark 10:51b-52)
